horse polo

we are fortunate enough in Normandy to have lots of horse events organised throughout the summer: races, jumping, cross country, horse polo, sales...
we went to a horse polo game at Deauville. it's always a bit funny to go and see those games as it is a bit of a upper class sport! the kids can't care less neither do I!
at first they weren't interested but after a bit of explanation they started to watch and understand what was going on. for those who know nothing about that sport :
Polo is a team sport played on horseback in which the objective is to score goals against an opposing team. Players score by driving a small white plastic or wooden ball into the opposing team's goal using a long-handled mallet. The traditional sport of polo is played at speed on a large grass field up to 300 yards in length, and each polo team consists of four riders.
each player has 4 to 5 horses, as it is really physical for the horses and they only last a short while. each player needs 2 to 3 lads for the care of the horses before, during and after the game.
the players swap horse in a flash as the game doesn't stop, so the lad are going mad to get the horses geared up, warmed up, ready to go and when they come back, ungeared, showered, walked...
